About Carrom

Carrom is a game for two or four players. It is played on a square wooden board and is similar to pool, with players trying to sink circular wooden carrommen in the corner pockets by flicking a larger disk called a striker. Carrom’s history is uncertain, but it is thought to have originated in India, or it may have been introduced there by the British. Over the last 100 years carrom has spread throughout the Indian subcontinent and is becoming increasingly popular in Europe and the United States thanks to immigrants from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, as well as tourists who have fallen in love with the game on their travels. There are many variations on the game, but today most local and national tournaments are played according to the rules compiled by the International Carrom Federation, which was established in 1988.
